Running on a scheduled village loop, the trolley gives visitors and locals a simple, affordable option for getting around Kona without a car. Your daily or monthly pass includes unlimited rides , so you can spend the day exploring the village without repeatedly searching for parking in Kailua-Kona.

Use the Kona Trolley map to find your nearest stop and see where the village loop can take you. The route connects popular locations throughout Historic Kailua Village, making it easy and convenient to reach local shops, restaurants, shopping centers and places of interest.
The trolley currently completes the loop approximately once an hour. You can also use live tracking to see where the trolley is while service is running.
The Kona Trolley Returns
A Village Transportation Service Built for Historic Kailua Village
The original village trolley began rolling in 2010 and carried more than 144,000 riders before being folded into the County bus system.
After local businesses expressed interest in bringing back a village-style service designed specifically for Historic Kailua Village, the Kailua Village Business Improvement District’s Placemaking Committee began conversations with Island RV Inc.
Today, the Kona Trolley is back as an independent Kona transportation service supported in part by the businesses along the route. It is privately operated by Island RV Inc, which currently provides transportation services on Hawaiʻi Island and Kauaʻi.
For riders, that means a convenient way to move through the village. For local businesses, it means helping people spend less time dealing with Kona parking and more time visiting the places that make Historic Kailua Village what it is.

Kona Trolley FAQs
Everything You Need to Know Before You Ride
The Kona Trolley is a privately run transportation service making scheduled loops through Historic Kailua Village and connecting shops, restaurants, shopping centers, activities and places of interest along the route.
The Kona Trolley fare depends on your pass. Visitor passes are $8 daily or $35 weekly. Kamaʻāina passes are $5 daily, $20 weekly or $65 monthly. Children under three ride free when seated on an accompanying fare-paying rider’s lap.
You can get on at any marked stop along the village loop. Look for designated Kona Trolley signage. No reservation is required, and live tracking is available so you can see where the trolley is.
The current Kona Trolley schedule runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. At launch, one trolley completes the loop approximately once an hour. Kona Trolley is working towards adding a second trolley and seven-day coverage, as ridership grows.
Purchase your pass online before you ride. Kona Trolley is completely cashless, so no cash fares are accepted onboard. Your pass arrives on your phone and can be shown when you get on.
Absolutely. Your pass includes unlimited rides while it is active. Get off for lunch, shopping or a visit to one of the places of interest along the route, then ride again when you’re ready.
